Established in Oxford some four decades ago (1963 to be precise) Oxonian Travel Services is the oldest family travel business in the county. Its title, as most dictionaries will testify, originates from Oxonian being described as 'of Oxford University; native or inhabitant of Oxford'.

In other words Oxonian is intended for Oxonians who wish to seek and subsequently enjoy their various and varied travel experiences.

Much has changed over the years with technology now very much to the fore, so much so that reservations and associated costs are instant. In 1963 one was limited to the use of an expensive telephone system and that was it. Travel documents were mostly hand written and then mailed to our customers.

As the years rolled by OTS had some momentous tasks to fulfil. A cruise for 800 Oxfordshire school children; a month long conference in Washington DC USA at the Mayflower Hotel, Dupont Circle for some 400 delegates from IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) involving our first Boeing 707 round trip charter from Heathrow to Dulles airport; two smaller escorted groups to Japan the following year for yet another IUPAC Conference; a company record for one year of 186 British School groups travelling abroad on educational visits in one form or another.

Having eventually progressed to a total of 8 Oxfordshire retail locations employing 53 staff we were slowly turning our efforts away from inexpensive package holidays to business travel plus the group and luxury holiday market. In 1988, A T Mays acquired 5 OTS outlets which enabled us to concentrate on our core activities. Thus it is that we now enjoy looking after the interests of some major business concerns in the local and international markets together with many VIP group passengers and individual long haul holiday makers.
